Here’s a headline nobody wants to click, and everybody should: “Your health insurance bills are about to go up.” That’s NBC News on Saturday, and it’s the most useful thing we read all day. * No drama, no villain of the week. Just your money. NBC walks through every kind of cover. Buy your own plan through Obamacare? Insurers want about 15% more for 2027, after roughly 20% this year. Covered through work? Employers expect costs per worker to rise 8.2%, the biggest jump since 2003. On Medicare? Some drug premiums could change after a program that kept them in check was ended. * Then it does the thing most money stories forget: it puts a real person in the numbers. Someone earning $80,000 who doesn’t get help could pay about $80 more a month for the cheapest plan. That’s almost $1,000 a year. You can feel that one. * It even handles the White House’s shiny new promise, $500 rebate checks for about a million people, in one line. An expert tells NBC it “pales in comparison” to the price rises. Straight, fair, done. * And it explains why, in plain words: pricier hospital care, expensive weight-loss drugs, and extra subsidies that ended with 2025, which pushed about 3 million people out of the market. * News that helps people plan their month isn’t glamorous. It won’t trend. But this is what journalism is for. More of this, please, before the letters from the insurance company land.
“News that helps people plan their month won’t trend. But this is what journalism is for.”
